Tobermory RNLI’s Severn class lifeboat, Elizabeth Fairlie Ramsey,  was launched shortly after 1000 on 11th April 2015, to assist a 30 foot commercial dive boat in the Sound of Mull, with two persons on board.

The casualty vessel had managed to get its anchor out as it was perilously close to the rocks in a strong westerly wind.

The Caledonian MacBrayne ferry, Loch Linnhe, had diverted from its route to Kilchoan to provide assistance with its fast rescue craft, which recovered a diver who was in the water and made the transfer  of the diver back to the casualty vessel.

The lifeboat stood by as the dive boat’s crew managed to effect repairs, after which the ferry resumed its service to Kilchoan.

Once the skipper of the casualty vessel confirmed that the repair had been completed and that they were safely underway, Tobermory RNLI’s volunteer crew returned to the station where the lifeboat was made ready for service at 1100.

Tobermory RNLI Coxswain, Andrew McHaffie says: ‘We are extremely grateful to the Master and crew of the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry for their fast response. The dive boat was very close to the rocks but fortunately there was a good outcome.’
